Clayton is the St. Louis County seat, named for Ralph Clayton, who gave the land for the county courthouse. Most of its neighborhoods were built before World War II, right beside the region's second-biggest business district after downtown St. Louis. We lift sunken walks, stoops, driveways and patios at homes and businesses with mudjacking.

Clayton packs a downtown business district and older residential streets into about 2.5 square miles, so we see both kinds of jobs here.

Downtown Clayton draws a steady crowd of office workers and visitors. A low slab at a building door or along a private walk is a liability, and lifting it can often be done outside business hours.

Concrete stoops on Clayton's pre-war homes have had many decades to settle. They lean away from the front door and open a gap where water gets in behind them.

The apron at the garage door rests on soil that was dug out and refilled when the house went up. As that fill packs down, the apron sinks below the garage floor.

When the soil under a patio compacts unevenly, one side drops. Rain then runs back toward the foundation, which is the last place you want it.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
We're part of Nick Gress Foundations and work for homeowners and businesses in St. Louis and St. Charles counties. If lifting won't fix your Clayton slab, we'll tell you that before you spend anything.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

The Missouri Geological Survey's map of the Clayton quadrangle shows wind-blown silt (loess) up to about 80 feet thick over limestone and shale. The survey notes 10 to 80 feet of surface material above the bedrock, and fill up to 40 feet deep under highways and rail lines.
In the low terrace areas, the map shows a buried layer of soft organic clay about 20 feet down that sits under a lot of infrastructure. On the uplands, water can sit on top of shale and weaken the soil above it.
Dense blocks, older lots and plenty of runoff mean the soil under Clayton's slabs gets wet often. Over time it packs down or washes out, and the slab sinks. Mudjacking pumps grout into that space and lifts the concrete back toward level.

Every service uses the same lifting process, sized to the slab. Not sure which one you need? Describe the problem on the estimate form and we will help you sort it out.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!

Yes. We lift private walks, entries and parking slabs for businesses, and we'll plan the work around your hours where we can.
Age isn't the deciding factor. If the stoop is solid concrete in one piece, we can usually raise it back against the house. If it's crumbling, we'll recommend replacing it instead.
Most residential jobs in Clayton take a few hours. We'll tell you when it's fine to walk on and when you can park on it again.
