Mudjacking & Concrete Leveling in Webster Groves, MO

Webster Groves came together in 1896, when Webster, Old Orchard, Webster Park, Tuxedo Park and Selma merged into one city along the Pacific Railroad line. Its older neighborhoods have homes more than a century old, and in Webster Groves the sidewalk out front is the owner's to maintain. We level sunken sidewalks, steps, driveways and patios with mudjacking.

How mudjacking lifts a sunken driveway Animation: soil washes out under a driveway and the slab sinks below the garage floor. Small holes are drilled, grout is pumped in to fill the void and lift the slab, and the holes are patched with the slab back to level. Void Level again Soil washes out. The slab sinks. Concrete Problems We Fix Around Webster Groves

Old houses, owner-maintained sidewalks and creeks running through town shape most of the Webster Groves jobs we see.

Front entry steps and stoop pulling away from a brick home

Porch steps on early 1900s homes

In Webster Park alone, about 60 houses went up between 1900 and 1909 and 74 more in the 1920s. Concrete steps added to homes that age often settle away from the porch and leave a gap at the top step.

Raised sidewalk edge creating a trip hazard

Sidewalk panels the owner has to fix

Because the city puts sidewalk upkeep on the property owner, a raised edge between two panels is your problem to solve. Raising the low panel back even with its neighbor is often the quickest fix.

Driveways in the older subdivisions

Driveways laid out generations ago have been through decades of freeze and thaw. Panels lose support where water gets underneath, then crack at the joints or sink near the house.

Yards that drain toward the creeks

Shady Grove Creek and Deer Creek both run through the area. Back yards that slope toward them stay wet, and patios on that ground can sink on the low side.

Before & After: What Mudjacking Fixes

These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

How Mudjacking Works

Small drilled holes in a settled concrete walkway before mudjacking

1. Drill small holes

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

2. Pump and lift

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

3. Patch and clean up

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

Why Concrete Sinks in Webster Groves

The Missouri Geological Survey's map of the Webster Groves quadrangle shows wind-blown silt (loess) on the uplands up to about 70 feet thick, with clayey glacial till 10 to 25 feet thick in the western part of the map. On steeper slopes it shows clay-rich residuum, which is weathered material mixed with chunks of the bedrock below it.

The same map marks karst areas in the Mississippian limestone, where sinkholes and caves form if the loess cover is thin. Shady Grove Creek, which crosses Lorraine Davis Park, feeds Deer Creek, and Deer Creek meets the River des Peres in Maplewood.

Silt and clay both lose support when water keeps reaching them. On a lot that has been settling for 100 years, that means voids under walks and steps. Mudjacking fills those voids and brings the slab back up.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!

    Webster Groves Mudjacking FAQ

Who fixes the sidewalk in front of my Webster Groves home?

In Webster Groves, you do. The city says the owner and the occupant of a property are jointly responsible for maintaining the sidewalk in front of it, under Section 10.520 of the city code, and a sidewalk can't be left in disrepair after the city sends notice. Questions go to Public Works at 314-963-5315. If the panel is whole and has only sunk, ask us about lifting it before you replace it.

Can you raise porch steps on a very old house?

Often, yes. If the steps are one solid concrete piece, we can lift them back toward the porch and close the gap. Steps that are brick, stone or badly broken may need a different repair, and we'll tell you before any work starts.

Will lifting a sidewalk panel match the panels next to it?

That's the goal. We raise the low panel until the edge lines up with its neighbor, which removes the trip edge without new concrete that looks different from the rest of the walk.

Why do slabs near Shady Grove Creek and Deer Creek settle?

Ground that drains toward a creek stays damp, and moving water carries fine soil away from under slab edges. Once the support is gone, the concrete sinks even though it hasn't broken.

Do you serve the areas around Webster Groves?

Yes. We work in Kirkwood, Brentwood, Ladue, Clayton, Des Peres and across St. Louis and St. Charles counties.
