Maryland Heights runs from upland neighborhoods down to the Missouri River floodplain, where the water table can be just 5 to 15 feet down. Wet soil and deep fill make concrete settle here, at homes and businesses alike. We lift sunken slabs back toward level with mudjacking.

Between the river bottoms, the creeks and the commercial corridors, Maryland Heights sees both residential and commercial concrete problems.

In neighborhoods like Arrow Heights, Autumn Lakes, McKelvey Manor and Westglen Estates, driveway panels that have lost support drop at the joints and at the garage.

Fee Fee, Dorsett and Midland creeks run through the city. Yards that drain toward them keep soil wet, and slabs on that soil settle and tilt.

Around the Westport and Riverport areas, sunken sidewalk panels and entry slabs make trip hazards for customers. Lifting them is fast and keeps the business open.

Much of the low ground was built up with fill. Where that fill settles, floor and dock slabs drop at the joints, and forklifts take a beating crossing them.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
We're part of Nick Gress Foundations and work on homes and businesses all over St. Louis County. We'll tell you straight if a slab can be lifted or if it needs to be replaced.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

The Missouri Geological Survey's map of the Creve Coeur area, which covers much of Maryland Heights, shows the Missouri River floodplain here is more than two miles wide, with a water table about 5 to 15 feet below the surface. It shows soft organic clays about 20 feet down in the terrace deposits, and man-made fill up to 40 feet thick.
The city's floodplain page names the Missouri River and Creve Coeur Lake as its two main water sources and notes that much of the area is levee-protected. On the uplands, the same geologic map shows wind-blown silt (loess) up to 100 feet thick, with karst in places.
Wet clays and deep fill both compress over time, and loess washes out when water gets under it. When the soil drops away, the slab follows. Mudjacking fills the void and lifts the concrete back toward level.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!

The Missouri River floodplain has a high water table, soft clays and a lot of placed fill. All three compress or shift over time, so slabs lose support from below.
