St. Ann started as a housing project for families of workers at nearby defense plants, much of it built by developer Charles F. Vatterott, and grew from about 4,600 people in 1950 to more than 18,000 by 1970. The concrete around those homes has had a long time to settle. We lift it back up with mudjacking.

St. Ann is compact, bordered by the airport and crossed by Coldwater Creek, with retail centers that draw steady foot traffic. These are the jobs we see most.

Many St. Ann driveways date from the city's early decades. When the soil under the last panel compacts, it drops below the garage floor and leaves a lip that catches tires and toes.

A walk poured over the soil packed against a foundation tends to sink at the house end. Water then runs toward the foundation instead of away from it.

Retail sites like the Crossings at Northwest, built on the former Northwest Plaza mall site, see heavy foot traffic. A sunken panel at a storefront door is a trip hazard that can usually be lifted in one visit.

Coldwater Creek flows north through St. Ann. Patios and walks on ground that drains toward it stay damp, and the silt under them washes out over time.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
We're part of Nick Gress Foundations and work in both St. Louis and St. Charles counties. We'll check your concrete and tell you honestly if it can be lifted or should be replaced.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

Coldwater Creek begins in a small spring-fed lake in Overland and flows north through Breckenridge Hills, St. Ann and Bridgeton before it passes under the airport in a culvert. The Missouri Geological Survey's map of the Creve Coeur quadrangle labels both St. Ann and the creek. It shows the uplands covered by up to 100 feet of wind-blown silt (loess) over Mississippian limestone, and it marks upland areas with high concentrations of sinkholes and caves.
In built-up creek valleys around St. Louis County, USDA soil scientists map soils such as Fishpot, which formed where fill was spread over older creek soils. The USDA notes these soils are somewhat poorly drained, with a seasonal high water table roughly 2 to 4 feet down from November through May.
Ground that stays wet half the year compacts and loses its silt, so the slab above it ends up resting on a hollow. Mudjacking fills that hollow with a cement-based grout and raises the slab. Moving downspout water away from walks and patios helps the fix hold.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!
For a question about a public sidewalk, contact the City of St. Ann's Public Services department at 314-423-2917. That department maintains the city's streets. Your driveway, walks, steps and patio are yours, and that's the concrete we lift.
Age by itself isn't the deciding factor. If the slab is still in a few large pieces, we can usually raise it and close the gap at the garage. If it's crumbling or broken into many pieces, replacement may be the better option, and we'll say so.
Yes. We lift entry slabs, walks and small parking areas for businesses. We can often work early or late so customers can still get in.
Soil near the creek holds more water, and in built-up creek valleys much of the ground is fill. Wet fill and silt compact under weight and wash out when water moves through them, so the slab above loses support.
