Most Ballwin homes went up in the 1960s and 1970s, so a lot of the driveways, walks and patios here have had 50 years to settle. When the soil under a slab washes out or compacts, the concrete drops. We lift it back toward level with mudjacking, usually in a few hours.

Older concrete, sloped lots and creeks that keep cutting into the land are behind most of the Ballwin calls we get.

Concrete poured in the 1960s and 70s has been through a lot of freeze and thaw. Panels that have lost support underneath drop at the joints and make a bump you feel every time you pull in.

Where the driveway meets the walk, one panel often settles more than the other. That edge is where most trips happen, and it's usually an easy lift.

Much of south Ballwin has slopes of 15 percent or more. Patios built out on those yards sit on fill that settles toward the low side over time.

Creek-bank erosion along streams like Grand Glaize Creek has eaten into backyards in parts of Ballwin. Slabs close to those banks can lose support as soil washes away.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
We're part of Nick Gress Foundations and work all over west St. Louis County. We'll tell you straight if a slab can be lifted or if it needs to be replaced.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

Ballwin's Comprehensive Plan says the city's shape is mostly the result of stream erosion, with elevations running from about 500 feet in the south to about 740 feet in the northwest uplands. Much of the south side has slopes of 15 percent or more, and the main floodplains follow Fish Pot, Grand Glaize and Kiefer creeks toward the Meramec River.
The same plan says Menfro silt loam is the main soil south of Manchester Road, with shallow upland soils to the north and floodplain soils along Grand Glaize Creek. The USDA describes Menfro as formed in wind-blown silt (loess). Loess is firm when dry and packed, but it compacts and washes out when water gets under it.
On older lots, years of downspout water and runoff carve hollows under slabs. Mudjacking fills those hollows and lifts the concrete, and pointing downspouts away from the slab helps keep it there.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!
According to the City of Ballwin, Public Works repairs trip hazards on sidewalks throughout the city. You can report a raised or sunken public sidewalk at (636) 227-9000. Your driveway, walks, steps and patio are yours, and that's where we can help.
If the concrete is still in large solid pieces, lifting usually costs less than replacing it and fixes the trip edges and drainage. If it's crumbling or broken into small pieces, we'll tell you replacement is the better call.
Sloped yards often have fill placed to make flat ground, and water runs downhill under slabs. Over time it compacts the soil or carries it away, and the concrete drops toward the low side.
Most driveway and walkway jobs are done in a few hours. We'll let you know when it's ready for foot traffic and when to drive on it.
