Des Peres takes its name from the River des Peres, and two of that river's feeders, Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek, run through town. In 2024 the city put out a project to level about 337 public sidewalk slabs that had settled, held water or become trip hazards. We fix the same problem on private driveways, walks, steps and patios with mudjacking.

Settled sidewalks, creek-side yards and a busy shopping district keep Des Peres concrete moving.

The city's own leveling project describes public slabs that settled over time and started holding water. The walk from your driveway to your front door goes through the same thing, and that part is yours to fix.

West County Center opened in Des Peres in 1969. Entry walks and sidewalk panels at shops in town settle under steady foot traffic and become trip edges.

Yards that slope toward the creeks stay damp longer. Patios on that soil tend to sink on the low side and push rain back toward the house.

A sunken section at the garage door catches water every storm, and freeze and thaw keep working on it. Lifting it closes the gap and sends water out to the driveway again.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
As part of Nick Gress Foundations, we lift concrete for homes and businesses throughout St. Louis and St. Charles counties. We look at each slab and tell you honestly if lifting makes sense.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

Des Peres is one of the towns on the Missouri Geological Survey's Kirkwood quadrangle map. On the uplands the map shows wind-blown silt and clayey silt, with pockets of clay, sand and gravel, up to about 100 feet thick in two layers. It also marks karst areas, mostly on the uplands, with high concentrations of sinkholes, caves and other karst features.
On slopes and toe slopes the map shows residual soil that typically has a high clay content with pieces of the rock it weathered from. Along Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek, which are both labeled on the map, the soils are creek deposits that hold water after storms.
Silt loses its grip when it gets wet, and high-clay soil swells and shrinks with the seasons. Either way, a gap can open under a slab. Mudjacking fills that gap with grout and lifts the slab, and steering water away from the edges keeps the gap from coming back.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!

Usually. We raise the low side so the surface drains the way it was poured to. If the slab has broken into many small pieces, lifting won't hold it together, and we'll tell you that.
Yes. We lift entry walks, sidewalks and parking slabs at stores, offices and churches. We can schedule around your hours so customers can still get in.
Soil near Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek stays wet longer after rain. Wet silt is weak, and water moving through it carries fine soil away, so the slab slowly loses what's holding it up.
