Eureka was platted in 1858 along the Pacific Railroad, on level ground beside the Meramec River, and the river has flooded parts of town hard since, including in December 2015 and again in 2017. Floodwater and runoff from higher ground pull soil out from under concrete. We lift sunken driveways, walks, steps and patios with mudjacking.

River floods, upland silt and fast runoff from paved ground are behind most of what we lift in Eureka.

During the December 2015 flood, the Eureka Fire Department made more than 100 boat rescues near the river. When water like that drains back out of the soil, it can leave hollows under patios and pads that weren't there before.

Aprons sit on backfill along the foundation. As that soil compacts, the apron sinks below the garage floor and water collects right at the door.

Where one panel of a front walk settles more than the next, you get an edge that's easy to trip on. It's one of the simplest lifts we do.

On lots that fall away from the house, runoff runs under the steps and takes soil with it. The stoop drops, tips outward and opens a gap at the threshold.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
We're with Nick Gress Foundations and serve homeowners throughout St. Louis and St. Charles counties. If your slab is better off replaced, you'll hear that from us up front.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

The Missouri Department of Conservation's inventory of the Meramec River watershed describes the lower basin from Eureka to Fenton as an urban zone where runoff reaches the river quickly because of paved surfaces. It says the uplands in St. Louis and Jefferson counties are capped with loess, and names Menfro, a deep, well-drained silt soil on slopes of 2 to 20 percent.
Along the river channel, the same report maps the Hartville, Ashton, Cedargap and Nolin soils. The USDA describes Nolin as very deep soil formed in river alluvium on flood plains, subject to rare to frequent flooding, and Cedargap as alluvium with a high content of chert gravel.
Water rushing off hard surfaces and floodwater soaking into river soil both work on the ground under a slab. Mudjacking fills the voids they leave with grout and raises the concrete. Pointing downspouts and gutters away from the slab helps the fix hold.

Every service uses the same lifting process, sized to the slab. Not sure which one you need? Describe the problem on the estimate form and we will help you sort it out.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!
For a public sidewalk, contact the City of Eureka at 636-938-5233. The city's Building Commissioner also serves as Public Works Director. Eureka requires a permit for new driveways and driveway extensions. Your existing driveway, walks, steps and patio are yours to maintain, and that's where we can help.
Often, yes, once the soil has drained. If the slab is still in one piece, we fill the hollow the water left and lift it back up. If it broke apart, we'll tell you replacement is the better route.
Upland soil here is deep silt on slopes of up to about 20 percent. Water running downhill under a slab carries that silt away bit by bit until the concrete has nothing left to rest on.
Usually. If the steps are solid concrete in one piece, we can raise them back toward the door and close the gap. Brick or crumbling steps may need a different repair.
