Mudjacking & Concrete Leveling in Des Peres, MO

Des Peres takes its name from the River des Peres, and two of that river's feeders, Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek, run through town. In 2024 the city put out a project to level about 337 public sidewalk slabs that had settled, held water or become trip hazards. We fix the same problem on private driveways, walks, steps and patios with mudjacking.

Small holes are drilled, grout is pumped in to fill the void and lift the slab, and the holes are patched with the slab back to level. Void Level again Soil washes out. The slab sinks. Concrete Problems We Fix Around Des Peres

Settled sidewalks, creek-side yards and a busy shopping district keep Des Peres concrete moving.

Raised sidewalk edge creating a trip hazard

Sidewalk slabs that hold water

The city's own leveling project describes public slabs that settled over time and started holding water. The walk from your driveway to your front door goes through the same thing, and that part is yours to fix.

Storefront walks near West County Center

West County Center opened in Des Peres in 1969. Entry walks and sidewalk panels at shops in town settle under steady foot traffic and become trip edges.

Patio slab settled away from a brick wall

Patios near Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek

Yards that slope toward the creeks stay damp longer. Patios on that soil tend to sink on the low side and push rain back toward the house.

Garage floors and aprons

A sunken section at the garage door catches water every storm, and freeze and thaw keep working on it. Lifting it closes the gap and sends water out to the driveway again.

Before & After: What Mudjacking Fixes

These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

How Mudjacking Works

Small drilled holes in a settled concrete walkway before mudjacking

1. Drill small holes

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

2. Pump and lift

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

3. Patch and clean up

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

Why Concrete Sinks in Des Peres

Des Peres is one of the towns on the Missouri Geological Survey's Kirkwood quadrangle map. On the uplands the map shows wind-blown silt and clayey silt, with pockets of clay, sand and gravel, up to about 100 feet thick in two layers. It also marks karst areas, mostly on the uplands, with high concentrations of sinkholes, caves and other karst features.

On slopes and toe slopes the map shows residual soil that typically has a high clay content with pieces of the rock it weathered from. Along Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek, which are both labeled on the map, the soils are creek deposits that hold water after storms.

Silt loses its grip when it gets wet, and high-clay soil swells and shrinks with the seasons. Either way, a gap can open under a slab. Mudjacking fills that gap with grout and lifts the slab, and steering water away from the edges keeps the gap from coming back.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!

    Des Peres Mudjacking FAQ

Who fixes the sidewalk in front of my Des Peres home?

Des Peres plans and pays for public sidewalk work through its Capital Improvement Program. Recent projects include sidewalk leveling in 2024 and slab replacement in Dougherty Lake and Four Winds Farm in 2026, with city staff marking the slabs to be fixed. For a public sidewalk, call City Hall at 314-835-6100. Your driveway, walks, steps and patio are yours, and that's where we can help.

Can mudjacking fix a slab that holds water?

Usually. We raise the low side so the surface drains the way it was poured to. If the slab has broken into many small pieces, lifting won't hold it together, and we'll tell you that.

Do you lift commercial concrete in Des Peres?

Yes. We lift entry walks, sidewalks and parking slabs at stores, offices and churches. We can schedule around your hours so customers can still get in.

Why do patios near the creeks keep sinking?

Soil near Deer Creek and Two Mile Creek stays wet longer after rain. Wet silt is weak, and water moving through it carries fine soil away, so the slab slowly loses what's holding it up.

Do you serve the areas around Des Peres?

Yes. We work in Kirkwood, Frontenac, Manchester, Ballwin and across St. Louis and St. Charles counties.
