From the brick streets of Frenchtown to the newer subdivisions off Route 94, St. Charles has concrete that's been settling for decades. We lift sunken driveways, walks, steps and patios with mudjacking, and we're based right here in St. Charles County.

St. Charles has some of the oldest neighborhoods in the region and plenty of newer ones too. The problems look different in each.

Homes in Frenchtown, Midtown and the Lindenwood neighborhood date from the 1830s through the 1950s. Concrete stoops and walks added over the years settle away from the house and leave gaps that let water in.

Under the city code, the sidewalk section that crosses your driveway is the owner's to maintain. A sunken or tipped panel there is a trip hazard and a common reason people call us.

Near the Missouri River, slabs sit on deep river deposits where the water table can be only 5 to 15 feet down. Wet seasons soften the soil and driveways settle and crack at the joints.

In subdivisions in the Golden Triangle and New Town, backyard slabs often sit on graded fill. As it compacts, patios tilt toward the house and AC pads lean.
These are the kinds of slabs we lift every week across St. Louis and St. Charles counties. The slab stays in place; we raise it and fill the empty space underneath.

A quick look at how lifting works on real slabs. The grout goes in through small holes, fills the empty space underneath, and raises the concrete back toward level.
St. Louis Mudjacking is part of Nick Gress Foundations, a St. Charles-based family company. We'll look at your slab and tell you plainly whether lifting is the right fix.

We drill a few small holes through the settled slab to reach the empty or soft spots underneath.

A cement-based grout is pumped under the slab. It fills the voids first, then slowly raises the concrete back toward level.

Once the slab is where it should be, we patch the holes and clean up. Most jobs are finished the same day.

The Missouri Geological Survey's map of the St. Charles area shows wind-blown silt (loess) on the uplands that can reach 140 feet thick, and Missouri River deposits 80 to 100 feet thick in the bottoms, where the water table sits 5 to 15 feet below the surface. The survey also notes organic clays about 20 feet down under the low river terraces, and a shale-rich bedrock layer that becomes unstable during heavy rain.
Loess is strong when it's dry and compacted, but it washes out easily when water runs along a slab edge, and it settles when it gets wet. Spring is the wettest time of year in St. Charles, which is when many of our customers first notice a step or panel has dropped.
Mudjacking fills the empty space under the slab and lifts it back toward level. Keeping downspouts and runoff away from slab edges helps the repair last.

Nick and his family turned my highly uneven, and very large, concrete driveway and pad into an almost perfectly level sheet. It was amazing to see. Nick and his family were awesome to work with, the price was fair, and the results were amazing. I highly recommend them.Posted on Google![]()

Nick and his team were extremely punctual, hard working and completed the task on time. We had almost fifty feet of foundation cracks repaired as well as the driveway mudjacked. Would highly recommend for future work.Posted on Google![]()

I wrote a bad review earlier about bad communication. His family was very ill that is why he was slow to get back to me. I ended up hiring them for a large driveway leveling job and it turned out great. Great quality and great pricing. I have referred St. Louis Mud Jacking multiple times since my project and I will continue to use them on my properties. I wish there was a way to remove my old review but I wasn't able to. Great company!!!!
Under the St. Charles city code (Section 505.270), the sidewalk section through your driveway is maintained at the owner's cost. Section 505.320 sets up a cost-sharing program where the city may pay 50% of an approved sidewalk repair and the owner pays the other 50%, using the lowest of at least three bids. Check with the city before you start. If a panel is intact and just sunken, ask us whether lifting is an option before replacing it.
Often, yes. If the stoop is solid concrete and still in one piece, we can usually raise it back toward the house and close the gap. Brick or badly cracked steps may need a different fix, and we'll tell you up front.
In the river bottoms, slabs sit on deep, soft river deposits with a high water table. Wet seasons soften the soil and it compresses under weight, so driveways and walks settle and separate at the joints.
In most cases lifting costs less than tearing out and pouring new concrete, because the slab you have stays in place. We'll give you a free estimate so you can compare.
